Metzeler Roadtec 01 Motorbike tyres are engineered for those who want a reliable sport-touring performance on regular roads, long-distance riding, mixed weather conditions and varying surface types. Positioned in the Sport Touring category, this range combines wet-road grip and stability, mileage and predictable handling for motorbikes used for commuting, touring and long-distance road biking. Metzeler describes the Roadtec 01 as a range which covers both radial and X-Ply construction, with the structure and materials being tailored to individual fitments.
The tread pattern makes use of longitudinal grooves at the front and differently oriented long and short grooves at the rear to provide water drainage, braking stability and grip on slippery surfaces. Metzeler also employs flexible carcass constructions to allow the tyre to conform to road imperfections while still offering riding precision. On radial versions, the front employs a full-silica compound while radial rear sizes make use of a 40%-20%-40% dual-compound layout, with a central silica/carbon-black section as well as full-silica shoulder compounds. Radial versions also make use of Metzeler's 0° steel-belt Interact technology which offers stability, precision and mileage.
Available sizes include multiple wheel diameters, including 16, 17, 18 and 19 inch application, with specifications varying by individual fitment. Examples include 100/90-16 54H TL and 120/80-18 62H TL, while the range also includes radial sizes such as 120/70 ZR 17 and 180/55 ZR 17. Since the load index, speed rating, construction and tube/tubeless requirements also vary between sizes, riders should ensure that they match the specific tyre specification to their motorcycle manufacturer's recommended fitment instead of choosing their fitments based on dimensions alone.
These characteristics make the Roadtec 01 relevant for those who will be using them on urban roads, on the highways, touring and on wet or slippery surfaces. Metzeler claims that the tread pattern and compound is intended to offer consistent performance, water drainage and regular wear, while the wider contact patch allows for distributing the bicycle's weight and acceleration forces over a larger area.
