Metzeler Racetec TD Slick180/55 R17 NHS TL Rear Tyre

The Metzeler Racetec TD Slick 180/55 R17 NHS TL is a rear racing slick engineered for closed-circuit track days, rider training and club-level racing where consistent dry-track performance and predictable handling are critical. As an 180/55 R17 rear tyre in the Racing Slicks category, this uses a genuine motorcycle tyre dimension to make the process of transitioning from an OE-specified rear tyre to dedicated racing rubber more straightforward. Metzeler specifies this specification for use in SSP 600 applications and recommends a 5.50-inch rim. The construction uses a single-ply, pure-radial structure, which aims to retain characteristics close to that of an original-equipment motorcycle tyre geometry to help simplify the process of finding a suitable track setup. The tyre is also engineered for quick warm-up, enabling early useful performance on a session. Metzeler describe this as being reusable and reversible, which make this a suitable option for those who attend multiple track sessions, seeking consistency in use across repeated circuit use. The 180/55 R17 specification means a nominal 180 mm section width, in addition to a 55-series profile and a 17-inch radial construction. TL designates tubeless construction, while NHS designates Not for Highway Service; thus this is a dedicated racing tyre rather than a conventional road-use motorcycle tyre. Metzeler's technical data recommends a recommended 5.50-inch rim and track-use pressure guidance of approximately 1.6–1.8 bar for the rear, with tyre-warmer guidance also provided for track preparation. Riders should seek to use latest manufacturer recommendations, which include their track setup requirements, and not treat these as universal road pressures. This rear slick is intended for motorcycles that are approved or configured for the 180/55 R17 rear tyre size, relevant to the SSP 600 track category. Specific motorcycle compatibility can vary, based on model year, wheel specification and racing set-up, so riders should confirm the specific rear tyre size, rim width and motorcycle manufacturer's requirements prior to fitting. It is intended for dry closed-circuit conditions and should not be treated as a substitute for a road-legal tyre on public roads.
